Vanden beats preseason #13 ranked San Ramon Valley Wolves
From the jump, the game was back and forth. No team lead by more than a few points the whole first quarter. Vanden was up 13-11 at the 2:00 mark when San Ramon went on 8-0 run, ignited by a deep three from sophomore guard, Sierra Chambers.
Vanden kept fighting and a nice assist from junior guard, Alyssa Jackson, to junior forward, Gabby Wright, brought the Vikings to within four to end the first quarter. San Ramon 21 leads 17.
San Ramon didn’t waste time scoring at the start of the second quarter, increasing the lead to six, but on the very next possession, Vanden’s senior guard, Jiana Creswell, hit a big three to bring Vanden to within 3, 20-23.
It was battle over the next few minutes with Vanden taking a lead. Then Vanden’s Alyssa Jackson topped it off when she knocked down a three at the 4:25 mark to extend their lead to 31-26.
The game remained tight in the second quarter. San Ramon’s, Sierra Chambers, gets a steal and knocks down the trey, bringing the Wolves to within one point, 30-31. Later in the second, Wolves’s senior guard, Natalie Pasco, buries a three in transition to regain the lead, 36-34.
San Ramon Valley continued the momentum ending the first half with a 41-38 lead over the Vanden Vikings.
Natalie Pasco had 13 points at the half for the Wolves, and for the Vikings Alyssa Jackson had 15 points.
To begin the the third quarter, the Wolves’s senior guard, Allison Stern, knocks down another trey. Moments later Vikings Jiana Creswell strikes back with a three of her own. The Vanden Vikings settled into a rhythm later in the third, dominating defensively, and winning the quarter 33-15. This surge led Vanden to a 71-56 lead going into the fourth.
San Ramon tried to claw back, but Vanden maintained, winning the contest 86-75.
Vanden’s guard, Alyssa Jackson, was clearly the the best player in the game Tuesday Night as she filled up the stat line with 29 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.
Senior (Chico State Signee) Jiana Creswell added 22 points and five rebounds, while Senior (unsigned) Kiari Roberts came up big Tuesday contributing 16 points and four rebounds.
Vanden will participate in Piedmont’s three game tournament (Paris Twins Classic) this week Thursday- Saturday facing off against Sacred Heart Cathedral in the first matchup of the three games.
For the Wolves, senior Pasco was the leading scorer, pouring in 21 to go with 14 rebounds, and Stearns registered 10 points, seven assists, and six boards. Sierra Chambers, a sophomore point guard, made big plays, contributed 19 points for San Ramon.
San Ramon next contest will be away against Whitney Saturday at 3:00pm
